Ferry — RSS Reader

Questions, bugs and requests all go to one place: [email protected]

Getting started

At first launch, choose one of two things:

You can switch between the two later from Settings → Account.

How the ordering works

By default Ferry ranks articles by score — how widely a story is being covered out there — rather than by when it arrived. If you would rather read newest-first, change the sort from the toolbar; each folder remembers its own choice.

Finding things to read

Discover shows stories grouped across sources, so a story ten outlets ran appears once, with the count. You can follow any source you see there, or browse by topic from Sources.

Syncing between your devices

On a local account, your subscriptions, read state and Later queue sync between your own devices through your private iCloud account, with no Ferry account involved. It is on whenever the device is signed into iCloud, and can be switched off under Settings → [your name] → iCloud. Service accounts sync through that service instead, as they already do.

Common questions

A feed will not add. Ferry accepts a feed address or a site's homepage, and looks for an advertised feed on the page. Some sites publish no feed at all; some put it somewhere unadvertised, in which case pasting the feed address directly will work.

An article shows only a summary. Many feeds publish only an excerpt. Ferry fetches and formats the full text when it can, and falls back to what the feed gave it.

Discover looks empty or stale. It is built from a digest refreshed every few hours. Pull to refresh; if it stays empty, the service may be briefly unavailable — reading your own feeds is unaffected.

Privacy

Ferry has no accounts of its own and creates no identifier for you. See the privacy policy for exactly what is and is not sent.
